Tanika Gupta transposed the setting of A Doll's House to 1879 India, where Niru is married to a man who works for the British Colonial Administation called Tom.
Gupta said "the wider environment and the central relationship are thus bound up with colonial attitudes to race, sitting alongside and interwoven with patriarchy."
