Informed consent - Making participants aware of the aims, procedures and rights. Participants can then make an informed decision whether they want to take part
Deception - Participants are not informed about the details of the study e.g. they are lied to or misled about the aims of the study
Protection from harm - Participants should not be at more risk of suffering psychological/physical harm than in their everyday lives. This includes not feeling embarrassed or stressed
Privacy and confidentiality - Participants right to control their information . Information should be protected and anonymised
Right to withdraw - participants can leave the study and decide not to take part at any point (before, during or after)

Produce a letter
Sign a consent form -if under 16 get gatekeeper consent-
Retrospective consent if deceived

Full debriefing at the end of the study

Be referred by pps number
Should not share any data with others
Ways of dealing with Protection from harm:
Reassure that pps behaviour is 'normal'
Can be offered counselling
Ways of dealing with Right to withdraw:
Remind pps in debrief that they can withdraw their data
