P- model views recovery as a dynamic process.
E- Earlier theories considered recovery from addiction as a single
all or nothing event. In contrast, six stage model emphasies importance of time, overcoming an addiction such as smoking is a continuing process.
This is why model proposes that behaviour change occurs through 6 stages of varying duration for each person. there’s also recycling backwards to different degrees and stages can be missed out.
L- suggests stage model provides realistic view of complex and active nature of recovery from addiction.
