• Mechanical weathering is also known as physical weathering
• Regolith is pieces of weathered rock
• Scree or talus is a mass of small weathered rock that often forms a pile at the base of a cliff
• Precipitation is the collective name for rain, snow sleet or hail
• Diurnal temperature change is a large change in temperature between the day and night. In some places the change can be up to 40 C. This can cause rocks to split along their joints, called block disintegration
• Lithified: To turn to rock
• Permeable: allows water to pass through it
