Metals and Non-Metals

Cards (5)

  • Metals form positive ions
  • Metallic bonding = sea of delocalised electrons embedded in metal ions
  • Metals- Malleable, strong, good conductors of heat and electricity (delocalised electrons) and have high melting and boiling points.
  • Transition metals- Good conductors, dense, strong and shiny. They can have more than one ion. They are coloured and often good catalysts.
  • Non metals- Brittle, not always solid at room temperature, dull-looking, low density and don’t generally conduct electricity.
