Human Development Index

Cards (2)

  • HDI is a composite measure of development, expressed as a figure between 0 and 1. It is made up of:
    • GNI per capita
    • Life expectancy at birth
    • Average & expected years of schooling
  • HDI is a better method of measuring development than GDP because it takes into account 3 dimensions of development.
Economic measures alone can be misleading as a country may be wealthy but have poor social development.
