stage 1: sensorimotor stage (0-2 years)

• Learn from trial and error then go onto deliberate movement of body which is known as primary circular reactions
• Lack of objects permanence -infant believes that an object ceases to exist when an object is out of their view
• If they don't look for the object they don't have object permanence and don't think it still exists, If they uncover and look for it they have object permanence believe the object still exists
