Appropriate Technology

• Appropriate technology considers the community that it is intended for & the environment in which they lie
• Appropriate technology:

  • Uses fewer resources
  • Is easily repaired by local people
  • Costs less to buy and run
  • Has a lower impact on the environment
• Women and children in rural Africa can spend up to 20% of their time collecting water which can be up to 10km away. Each 90 Litre drum holds the equivalent of 5 buckets. This creates time for eductation, economic activities & household tasks. However it costs over $100, which is too much for rural africans
• The water roller prevents injury, The 90kg drums weigh just 10kg when rolled given that the generally women & children collect water, the Hippo water roller helps prevent long-term neck and spinal injuries.
