Experiment for speed of sound

• Hold a tuning fork above tube closed on one end,

  Length of tube can be varied by raising + lowering in water

  when you hear a loud noise you have reached the first harmonic

  1/4 * lander
• Vary the frequency by using different tuning forks and measure the length at which you hear the first harmonic

  plot graph of L / 1/f

  gradient = lander/4 / 1/f

  gradient = lander/4 * f

  gradient = v/4

  Therefore v = gradient * 4
