    • allowing success - manipulating environment so player experience success, this provides motivation. drive reduction and boredom may kick in if overused
    • goal setting - set goals that are achievable with degree of effort, this can lead to satisfaction. setting goals continuously always means there is a realistic target

    • ego/goal orientated people regard success as victory over other people and believe ability and comparing to others is criteria to success
