Making Ammonia

Cards (4)

  • Chemical equation of the Haber Process
    N2 + 3H22NH3
  • What makes up Ammonia?
    • Nitrogen (from air)
    • Hydrogen (mainly from methane)
  • Conditions needed for Haber Process:
    • High pressure (200 atm)
    • High temperature (450 °C)
  • The Haber Process:
    1. Hydrogen and nitrogen pumped in
    2. Nitrogen and hydrogen compressed with 200 atm at 450 degrees celsius.
    3. Enters reaction vessel containing iron catalyst
    4. Ammonia cools down and liquifies in cooling chamber
    5. Unreacted hydrogen returns to reactive vessel
