Geology
(LT) = characteristics of land, including lithology and structure
Sea level change
(LT) = can be used to classify coasts as emergent or submergent
Energy inputs
(ST) = Coasts receive energy inputs from waves , tides , currents. atmospheric processes, gravity and tectonics
-> Used to classify coasts as
high energy
and
low energy.
Sediment inputs
(ST) = Coasts receive sediment inputs from waves and wind, tides, currents, mass movement and tectonic processes.
-> added to a coastline through deposition and removed by erosion.
Emergent
coastline = where the sea level is dropping and new Land is appearing
-> Scotland coastline (Isle of Arran)
Submergent
coastline = where the sea is flooding the land
->e.g. Kingsbridge in Devon
