  • Vegetation can stabilise unconsolidated sediment and protect it from erosion. 
  • Plant roots bind sediment together, making it harder to erode. 
  • Plant stems and leaves covering the ground surface protect sediment from wave erosion
• pioneer plants = the first plants to colonise freshly deposited sediment.
