  • Aztreonam is a synthetic monobactam antibiotic, having a moncyclic nucleus.
  • Aztreonam inhibits synthesis of the bacterial cell wall by high-affinity binding to penicillin-binding protein (PBP3 ) which is found primarily in aerobic, Gram-negative microbes.
  • Aztreonam is highly resistant to beta-lactamases.
  • Aztreonam is effective in treating Gram-negative UTI, lower respiratory tract, skin, intraabdominal, gynecologic infections and septicemia.
  • Contraindications for Aztreonam include
    • hypersensitivity history to penicillin or cephalosporins;
    • impaired renal or liver function.
  • Aztreonam exhibits activity against
