Propaganda

• Under Lenin propaganda was used effectively in the Civil War for recruitment. Posters, film and the arts used to mobilise support among the barely literate peasants.
• Propaganda included pictures of happy, productive workers such as Stakhanovite who were promoted as role models. Pavlik Porozov who denounced his father as a kulak was celebrated. Peasants created a red corner in their homes as they would have done for Saints
• Lenin was treated like a god. His tomb became a shrine and Petrograd became Leningrad in 1924.
