Cartilage is made up of collagen and elastin, covers the ends of the bones- reduces friction at joints-prevents bone to bone contact and general wear and tear of bones and acts as a shock absorber
Cartilage function found at the end of bones.
Tendons functions attach muscles to bones
Tendons have nomovement. They are very strong- due to thickness. Have high tensile strength- they wont snap easily under strain.
Ligaments functions- attach bone to bones.
Ligaments consist of dense collagenous fibres and elastin- can withstand great pressure. Due to presence of elastin have a degree of elasticity. Allow movement in multiple directions. Have less tensile strength than tendons.
Bones structure:
-compact bone tissue.
-spongy bone tissue contains red marrow and yellow marrow
red marrow are where blood cells can be made such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets
yellow marrow stores fat for long term energy store
