Cotrimoxazole

• Trimethoprim is mainly used in combination with sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX), and this combo is bacteriocidal.
• Cotrimoxazole is used to treat traveler's diarrhea and UTIs, but it’s also effective in treating haemophilus influenzae and moraxella catarrhalis.
• Cotrimoxazole is the first-line therapy for the treatment and prevention of pneumocystis jirovecii infections.
• Cotrimoxazole is effective against MRSA.
• The combination of trimethoprim with sulfamethoxazole, called cotrimoxazole.
