The matrix

• The mitochondrial matrix contains enzymes that catalyses the link reaction and krebs cycle.
• The mitochondrial matrix contains molecules of the coenzyme NAD (Nicotineamide adenine dinucleotide) and FAD (Flavine adenine dinucleotide)
• The mitochondrial matrix contains oxaloacetate- the four carbon compound that accepts the acetyl group in the link reaction,
• Mitochondrial DNA, some of which codes for mitochondrial enzymes and other proteins.
• The mitochondrial matrix contains mitochondrial ribosomes, structurally similar to prokaryotic ribosomes, where enzymes and other proteins are made.
