    • Enculturation - The process by which an individual learns their group's culture, assimilating values, behaviors, norms, and social skills to function as a member of their society. A sense of belonging is developed through effective enculturation.
  • Socialization - The process whereby individuals acquire the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, values, and behavioral patterns necessary to become members of their community or society. It involves learning how to interact with others and adapt to different situations.
  • Identity- personal and private view of the self and how they are perceived by others in a society
  • Rites of passage - Ceremonies or rituals marking an individual's transition from one social status to another, like from childhood to adulthood. These reinforce an individual's inclusion and sense of belonging
    • Social exclusion - Processes by which individuals and groups are fully or partially excluded from participation in their society. This denies access to resources and community, severely impacting one's sense of belonging.
