  • Reaction intermediates are chemical species, often unstable and short-lived, which are not reactants or products, they are often free radicals or ions.
  • 2-bromopropane is the major isomer because its intermediate (secondary carbonium ion) is more stable than the intermediate for 1-bromopropane (primary carbonium ion).
