Advent season -time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ second coming at the end of time.
First Day of advent -first day of a new liturgical calendar & begins a four week period of preparation in anticipation of the nativity of Jesus.
Advent wreath - constructed of a circle of evergreen branches into which 4 candles are inserted representing 4 weeks of Advent.
Purple candles -symbolize prayer, and penance. & preparatory sacrifices of good works.
Hope -1st candle "Prophet's Candle", prophets of the Old Testament, especially Isaiah, waited in hope for the Messiah's arrival.
Faith - 2nd candle "Bethlehem's candle", Micah foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which is also the birthplace of king David
Rose -signifies joy
Love -3rd candle "Shepherd's Candle" , shepherds were told by angels to go to Bethlehem where they found Mary with her infant son Jesus
Peace - 4th candle "Angel's Candle", Angels announced the Good News of Christ's Birth to the Shepherds
