  • Normative social influence
    Conforming because of a need to feel solidarity with a group and to avoid alienation. This most likely explains compliance conformity as the change in behaviour/opinions is a temporary one and based on emotion rather than cognition
  • Informational social influence
    When you conform because you feel that other group members must be correct. Conforming because you think others have the right answers because they must know more than you. This occurs most in ambiguous tasks where a person may be genuinely unaware of the correct answer/way to act. Most often leads to internalisation.
