  • in 1913, the government spent 13% of its GDP on social welfare. by 1928, this was up to 26%
  • unemployment remained high in the middle class, in 1928 there were 184,000 unemployed middle class, half of whom did not qualify for the unemployment insurance law
  • the wages of working germans rose 12% during the 1920s whilst middle class wages barely rose, and the middle class disliked how the socialist gov only cared about the working class, many bgean supporting the NSDAP
  • in 1919 (progressive tax and general higher taxes introduced), the government raised 9% through taxation, by 1925 this had risen to 17%
  • in 1913, there were 143 TB deaths and 119 pneumonia deaths per 10,000. by 1928 this was 87 and 93 respectively
