Changes to Media Representations of Gender

• There is a range of images of gender and a large diversity of masculinities & femininities
• Overall, there has been a change from the early findings from sociological research and how gender representations have developed
• A Media representation of a transgressive female role is 'Griselda Blanco' in the Netflix Series 'Griselda', a woman who is underestimated by men and often negatively called a 'housewife' and isn't seen as strong enough to be a drug lord, but this character breaks these stereotypes
• Other forms of Media (e.g. Social Media) have become available, which means exposure to social media may produce more realistic gender roles
