• What is shared variance?


  The amount that the variations of the two variables tend to overlap. The percentage of shared variance is represented by the square of the correlation coefficient, r2.
• Gene-environment inter-dependencies:

  • Genetics might predispose us to alter our environment.
  • The impact of a gene might depend of the environment.
• Ways of studying heritability:

  • Familial studies allow us to estimate heritability because we can look at the extent to which phenotypes look similar in people with varying genotypic overlap.
  • Adoption studies minimise environmental overlap e.g. twins raised apart.
