Brain

Cards (21)

  • brain
    is the body’s control center.
  • It is held and protected by the skull.
  • The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain.
  • cerebrum is divided into two haves, called the hemispheres.
  • The corpus callosum connects the two hemispheres.
  • Each hemisphere is divided into regions called lobes.
  • The frontal lobe is the largest lobe located at the front of the brain.
  • the prefrontal cortex is still developing, teenagers might rely on a part of the brain called the amygdala to make decisions and solve problems more than adults do.
  • amygdala is associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behavior.
  • The parietal lobe is located posterior to the frontal lobe. It is responsible for the organization and interpretation of sensory information
  • The 4 lobes are:
    Frontal lobe
    Parietal lobe
    Temporal lobe
    Occipital lobe
  • Temporal lobe it is responsible for processing auditory information, visual memory and language comprehension . It is also involved in recognizing and understanding reactions and emotions of others.
  • The occipital lobe is the smallest of the four lobes of the cerebral hemisphere.
  • occipital lobe is responsible for visual processing including recognition of shapes, colors, patterns, motion, etc. reading
  • 3 Part of the brain
    cerebrum
    cerebellum
    brainstem
  • The cerebellum is located at the back of the brain, inferior to the occipital lobe. It is responsible for fine motor skills including fine movements of the hands and feet balance, coordination and posture
  • The brainstem is located anterior to the cerebellum, and connects to the spinal cord.
  • Brainstem has 3 parts
    Midbrain
    Pons
    Medulla oblongata
  • The midbrain is the most superior part of the brainstem. It controls eye movement and it also processes visual and auditory information.
  • The pons is the largest part of the brainstem contains nerves that help to connect to the different parts of the brain. it also contains some cranial nerves which are involved in facial movements and for transmitting sensory information.
  • The medulla oblongata is the most inferior part of the brainstem. It controls the function of the heart and lungs.
