Magnetic fields

• Like poles repel, opposite poles attract
• What is a magnetic field?

  An area around a magnet or where a magnetic material/ magnet experiences a force
• The further from the magnet, the weaker the force
• In a diagram of magnetic fields, the closer the lines the stronger the force (at each pole)
• There are 4 magnetic materials: Iron, steel, cobalt and nickel
• The Earth's core is magnetic and a compass will always point in the north- south direction due to the Earth's magnetic field
