  • Cultural Criminology argues that the media itself turns crime into a commodity. Media encourages people to consume crime in the form of images of crime. 
  • Hayward and Young 2012: late modern society is media-saturated where we are immersed in the ‘mediascape’ (an ever-expanding tangle of fluid digital images, including images of crime). Blurring between the image and the reality of crime so that they are no longer clearly distinct or separable. Media represents crime and criminal controls which creates crime itself. 
  • Gang assaults are not caught on camera, but staged for the camera for ‘underground fight videos’
