• diffusion is the gradual movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration
• the bigger the concentration gradient the faster the diffusion rate
• the higher the temperature the faster the diffusion rate as particles will heat up causing more energy to be created
• cell membranes use diffusion to dissolve substances in and out the cell
• only small molecules can be diffused through the cell membrane like oxygen ,glucose, amino acids and water
• bigger molecules cannot fit through the cell membrane, poritens and starch
• in a cell membrane the larger the surface area the faster the diffusion rate
