Properties of Waves

• Visible light is a transverse wave.
• There are multiple other transverse waves in the electromagnetic spectrum, including radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, and gamma rays.
• Radio waves have the longest wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum and have very low energy levels.
• Microwaves can travel through any kind of weather and have slightly shorter wavelengths than radio waves.
• Infrared waves are invisible to the human eye, and all objects emit infrared radiation.
• Visible light and color waves are the only waves humans can see.
• Shorter wavelengths make the colors blue and purple, and longer wavelengths make the colors orange and red.
• Wavelengths that are too short will be classified as ultraviolet rays, and ones that are too long will be classified as infrared rays.
• X-ray waves have high energy levels, and can easily pass through human tissues but not through bones.
• Too much X-ray radiation can damage human cells because of the extremely high energy levels X-ray waves have.
• Gamma rays have the shortest wavelengths on the electromagnetic spectrum and the most energetic waves.
• Gamma rays can travel through any medium/s and have no limitations.
