Visible
light is a
transverse wave.
There are multiple other
transverse
waves
in the
electromagnetic
spectrum, including
radio
waves,
microwaves
,
infrared
waves, and
gamma
rays.
Radio waves
have the
longest
wavelength on the
electromagnetic
spectrum
and have very low
energy
levels.
Microwaves
can travel through any kind of weather and have slightly
shorter wavelengths
than
radio waves.
Infrared waves
are
invisible
to the human eye, and all objects
emit infrared radiation.
Visible light
and
color waves
are the only waves humans can see.
Shorter wavelengths
make the colors blue and purple, and
longer wavelengths
make the colors orange and red.
Wavelengths that are too
short
will be classified as
ultraviolet
rays, and ones that are too long will be classified as
infrared
rays.
X-ray waves have
high energy levels
, and can easily pass through
human tissues
but not through
bones.
Too much
X-ray radiation
can damage
human cells
because of the extremely
high energy levels X-ray waves
have.
Gamma
rays have the
shortest wavelengths
on the
electromagnetic
spectrum and the most energetic waves.
Gamma rays
can travel through any
medium
/s and have no limitations.
