  • What matters most when choosing a career is 1) interests, 2) skills, 3) values, 4) location.
  • Outline: tool to organize written ideas about a thesis or topic in logical order
  • Thesis statement: one sentence that states the main idea of your essay
  • Introduction: hook, background information, thesis statement
  • Paragraph structure: introduction, body paragraphs (minimum three), conclusion
  • Body Paragraphs: Topic Sentence, supporting sentences with evidence, transition words/phrases, concluding sentence
  • Body paragraphs: topic sentences, supporting evidence, transitions
  • Conclusion: restate thesis, summarize points made, call readers to action
  • Body Paragraphs: Topic Sentence, supporting sentences, transition words/phrases, evidence, analysis, counterargument, rebuttal, concluding sentence
  • Revising: reviewing an essay to improve it by changing words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, etc.
