You can determine wavespeed ,frequency and wavelength of waves by using appropriate apparatus.
Practical - waves in fluids
-
Aim - to investigate the suitability of apparatus to measure the speed , frequency and wavelength of waves in a fluid .
-
Apparatus:
Rippletank
Motor
Planewavegenerator
Stroboscope
ruler
A3paper
Pencil
Method:
Set up the apparatus
Calculate the frequency of the waves by counting the number of wavespassing a pointeachsecond
Do this for 1 minute and divide by 60 for a accuratefrequency of water waves.
Use a stroboscope to “ freeze “ the waves and find their wavelength using a ruler -this can be projected onto a3 paper
Calculate wavespeed
Water waves will travel at a constantspeed in a ripple tank when generated at different frequencies if the depth of the water is constant at all points.
