Waves in fluids- Required practical

Cards (3)

  • You can determine wave speed ,frequency and wavelength of waves by using appropriate apparatus.
  • Practical - waves in fluids
    -
Aim - to investigate the suitability of apparatus to measure the speed , frequency and wavelength of waves in a fluid .
    -
    Apparatus:
    1. Ripple tank
    2. Motor
    3. Plane wave generator
    4. Stroboscope
    5. ruler
    6. A3 paper
    7. Pencil
    Method:
    1. Set up the apparatus
    2. Calculate the frequency of the waves by counting the number of waves passing a point each second
    3. Do this for 1 minute and divide by 60 for a accurate frequency of water waves.
    4. Use a stroboscope to “ freeze “ the waves and find their wavelength using a ruler -this can be projected onto a3 paper
    5. Calculate wave speed
  • Water waves will travel at a constant speed in a ripple tank when generated at different frequencies if the depth of the water is constant at all points.
