MODULE SEVEN Public Speaking

• Manuscript Reading: This is the type of speech wherein the speaker reads word for word from a written copy
• Manuscript Reading This is rarely done because it is not interesting enough and may alienate the audience.
• Manuscript reading One advantage though is being free from error as the speaker closely follows a copy
• Memorized Speech is the rote recitation of a written copy that the speaker had memorized.
• Memorized Speech: This can be useful when speakers want to deliver the exact message without alienating the audience and being confined by notes
• Impromptu Speech: This is the type of speech delivered without advance preparation
• Impromptu Speech This usually happens when we are asked to say a few words or give a message during events or gatherings.
• Impromptu Speech: An advantage is its spontaneity and ability to be responsive to the audience. A downside though is that the message tself may be sacrificed given the little or limited time the speaker is given to deliver the speech.
• Extemporaneous Speech: is the presentation of a speech that is planned, rehearsed, and delivered in a conversational manner.
• Extemporaneous Speech This is also often accompanied by the use of an outline or brief notes to guide the speaker.
• Extemporaneous Speech This is often the most preferred way of speech delivery as it allows the speakers to interact with the audience, giving them the image of being credible and knowledgeable.
