Genetic Disorders

• Sickle Cell Disease 

  inherited blood disorder marked by inadequate hemoglobin thereby affecting the shape of the red blood cells can live up to 120 days while sickle cells only live for about 10 to 20 days resulting to low hemoglobin count, lower O2 concentration in the blood leading to anemia and greater risk for infection, pain & Jaundice
• Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease (CFLD)

  abnormality in the glands that produce sweat and mucus affecting various organ systems in children and young adults, including the respiratory system, digestive system and reproductive system
• Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease (CFLD) 

  characterized by thick mucus that clogs certain organs, such as the lungs, pancreas, and intestines.
• Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease (CFLD) 

  It causes malnutrition, poor growth, frequent respiratory infections, breathing problems, and chronic lung disease.

  A person will be born with CF only if 2 CF genes are inherited–one from the mother and one from the father.
• Muscular Dystrophy 

  a genetic disorder characterized by breaking down muscle leading to weakness & deformities of the joints → delayed walking, difficult movements i.e. in getting up & change of position.  The most common types to affect children are called Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Becker muscular dystrophy, usually diagnosed between the ages of 3-6 yrs. Old.
• Cleidocranial Dysplasia (CCD)

   is a rare genetic condition that affects teeth and bones, such as the skull, face, spine, collarbones and legs. The bones in people with CCD might be formed differently or might be more fragile than normal, and certain bones such as collarbones may be absent.
