• 12,000 freikorps marched on berlin under wolfgang kapp
• Freikorps were furious about the treaty of versailles so refused to disband or hardback their weapons
• Ebert and his government fled, the only reason it did not succeed was because the people of Berlin went on strike
• Humiliated the government and made them look weak
