Cards (6)

  • What are fullerenes
    Large carbon molecules
  • Fullerenes are not giant covalent structures. What are they?
Large molecules shaped like hollow balls or tubes - different fullerenes contain different numbers of carbon atoms
  • How are the carbon atoms in fullerenes arranged
In rings, similar to those in graphite
  • Why can fullerenes conduct electricity
Just like graphite, they have delocalised electrons
  • Bigger molecules have bigger ? forces
    Bigger intermolecular forces
  • Why are fullerenes' melting and boiling points high for molecular substances
Because they're big molecules - meaning that they have more intermolecular forces but no where near as high as graphite and diamond
