Aid given by organisations such as the world bank rather than aid from one country
Charitable aid
Money or support given by non-government organizations (NGO's) such as Oxfam or Water Aid
Emergency aid - Aid needed after a disaster such as a typhoon. It normally includes water, food and medical supplies
Conditional Aid
Money or resources given by a country with something wanted in return such as trade deals
Development aid
Aid given to countries to help them in the future, usually a sustainable project
A top down project is government lead and people have no say in it. It is long-lasting, expensive and a big project. It is expensive so a loan might be required from the world bank.
A top down project requires skilled people, whereas a bottom up project using appropriate technology anyone can access e.g. a water pump
A bottom up project is a project by the community which is small and cheap. It is funded by charities e.g. water aid and is usually a small scale project
