The Party’s leader Adolf Hitler had powerful public speaking skills and the ability to captivate his audience, since he sympathised with the frustrations of many Germans. Hitler promised + claimed he was the only person who could create jobs and end the long period of economic depression. The Nazis promised an increase in employment and wages.
The Nazis promised that all German-speaking people would be united in one country, the Treaty of Versailles would be abandoned, and there would be special laws for foreigners.
The failure of the Munich beer hall Putsch had shown Hitler that he would not be able to take power by force. Hitler therefore decided to change tactic and instead focus on winning support for his party democratically and being elected to power.
The Nazis were able to fund their campaigns through funding from ‘big business’. Many of Germany’s rich industrialists feared the spread of communism and wanted to see the Nazis in power.
ANALYSIS (FOR)
There were numerous political groups in Germany. Any of them could have exploited problems in Germany, but only the Nazis were organised enough to achieve this.
ANALYSIS (AGAINST)
Not all Germans accepted the Nazi party. Groups such as the swing kids, made parody songs of Nazi party anthems as they saw through the facade that Hitler put in place.
EVALUATION (AGAINST)
Many of Germany's elite were put off by Hitler's tone and violence associated with Nazis.
