2.5.1 Static Charge

• The material that gains electrons becomes negatively charged
• When certain insulating materials are rubbed against each other, they become electrically charged
• Negatively charged electrons are rubbed off one material and onto the other
• Two electrically charged objects exert a force on each other when brought close together
• Objects with different types of charge attract each other
• The material that loses electrons is left with an equal positive charge
• Objects with the same type of charge repel each other
• Attraction and repulsion between two charged objects are examples of non-contact force
