Tuckerman's Stages of Team Formation

• Describe 'Forming' Stage

  Team members are selected and introduced to each other
• Describe 'Storming' Stage

  Members compete for roles within the team. There could be power struggles and disputes as members secure their role in the team
• Describe 'Norming' Stage

  Team members start to undertake tasks and solve problems. Any conflict is resolved at this stage
• Describe 'Performing' Stage

  The team is now settled and functioning highly
• Describe 'Adjourning' Stage

  Most of the team's goals have been achieved. Individual team members may be assigned to other teams and unless there is ongoing responsibility the team will be disbanded
