  • A temporary government was set up to run Germany, sometimes referred to as a provisional government.
  • The Spartacist were communists who aimed to overthrow the provisional government.
  • In January 1919, Spartacist supporters took over the centre of Berlin.
  • While waiting for orders on what to do next, the provisional government ordered the Freikorps to crush the Spartacists.
  • The next week was known as bloody week as hundreds of Spartacists were captured and executed.
  • The leaders of the Spartacist were Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxembourg, both of whom were killed.
