• The Cuban Missile Crisis helped relations between the USA and the USSR. They both took steps to reduce the risk of war again, such as:

  A permanent hotline between the two leaders.

  the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty: a treaty that didn't stop the development of weapons, but it limited tests
• It was significant that for the rest of the Cold War, the USSR and the USA avoided confrontation and fought through their allies where possible
