Longshore Drift
is the way
material
is
transported
along the
coastline
Longshore drift
The
zigzag
movement of
sediment
along the
coastline.
What is longshore drift
The
transportation
of the
material
/
sediment
by
waves
is known as
longshore drift.
Waves approach the coast at a
45
degree angle because of the direction of the
prevailing
(most common)
wind.
The
swash
will carry the material
towards
the beach at this same angle.
The
backwash
then flows back to the
sea
, down the
slope
of the beach.
The process repeats itself along the coast in the
zig-zag
movement
Deposition
When material being
transported
by the
sea
is
dropped
due to a
loss
in
energy.
