FOUR WRITINGS

• Samhitas (“Collections”) — refers to the hymns and chants in the Vedas
• Brahmanas (“expositions”) — refers to the prose text attached to the Vedas.
• Upanishads (“philosophical knowledge”) — it can be translated literally as “connection,”. The contents are said to be dialogues between a teacher and his disciples, focus on the nature of the universe and how humanity relates to it.
• Sutras — is the fourth part of writing.
