Muscular System

• There are about 640 muscles in the body
• Muscles can be classified as skeletal, smooth or cardiac muscle.
• Skeletal muscles attach to bones by tendons.
• The three types of muscle tissue include skeletal (voluntary), smooth (involuntary) and cardiac (involuntary).
• A muscle is made up of bundles muscle fibers
• Skeletal muscles are connected to the bones and are responsible for movement
• The movement of skeletal muscles are voluntary.
• Smooth muscles are not attached to the bones. They are involuntary muscles because they work automatically.
• When you eat, the chewed food is pushed by the rhythmic, called peristalsis, of the smooth muscles of the digestive canal.
• Cardiac muscle (or myocardium) makes up the thick middle layer of the heart
