Cellular Movement Of Particles

• Diffusion - the movement of any particle from high concentration to low concentration until evenly dispersed, no energy is needed
• Osmosis - movement of water particles from high water potential to low water potential through a semipermeable membrane, no energy required
• Active Transport - Movement of particles from low concentration to high concentration, energy required
• High Water Potential - h2o saturated

  Low Water Potential - concentrated/less h2o
• Hypertonic - water moves out of the cell, causing it to shrink, concentrated
• Hypotonic - water moves in to the cell, causing it to grow, dilute
• Isotonic - no net movement of water, same concentration of water and any other substance
