Control through censorship and propaganda

Cards (2)

    • Nuremberg Rallies - to show Nazi strength and German military strength which inspired loyalty.
    • Posters showed 'successes' of the Nazi regime. Showed that life in Nazi Germany was better than before - Nazis had solved problems (e.g. work and bread). Gave ideas of Germans as being the master race and targeted 'enemies of the state'.
    • Nazi films spread propaganda, glorifying leaders and demonizing enemies. Over 1,000 films were made (1933–1945), with cinema attendance increasing by four times (1933–1944). Schools were provided with projectors for indoctrination.
    • Any media that conveyed anti-Nazi ideas or other ways of life was censored. Only books which agreed with Nazi views were allowed - other books were banned and many were publicly burned from May 1933.
    • All radio stations under the control of the Propaganda Ministry - Radios were used to broadcast Hitler's speeches which ensured Nazi messages were widely spread.
    • Nazi propaganda exaggerated economic success, hiding policy failures. It claimed victory in the "battle of work" and used advertising campaigns to suggest rising living standards for Germans.
