• mouth: the opening of the digestive system that allows food to enter the body
• small intestine: Most absorption occurs here, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, water, and electrolytes.
• large intestine: Water reabsorbed from faecal matter, which then passes into the rectum and anus
• Rectum: The final section of the large intestine where faecal material is stored until it can be eliminated through the anus.
• anus: The end of the alimentary canal through which waste products are eliminated from the body
• stomach: 1. digests food into a liquid 2. produces hydrochloric acid
• salivary glands: produces amylase to start breaking down starch molecules
• pancreas: releases enzymes that break down carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins
• liver: produces bile, breaks down fats, stores glycogen
