Becker's aim was to investigate behaviours and attitudes following prolonged exposure of television on attitudes to eating in Fijian adolescent girls.
Becker's procedure used cross-sectional design.
Becker's procedure included two groups. The 1st group in 1995 within weeks of the introduction of TV. The 2nd group in 1998 after 3 years of exposure to TV.
The 1st group included 63 girls, with a mean average age of 17.3.
The 2nd group had 65 girls, with a mean average age of 16.9. In which 40% to 70% owned a TV.
Becker had everyone take a EAT-26 questionnaire and conducted interviews.
Becker's results found that 12.6% in 1995 compared to 29.2% in 1998 with EAT-26 above 20.
Becker's results found self inducing vomiting 0% to 11.3%
Becker concluded that TV can have a negative impact on eating attitudes and behaviours
