  • aggression - behaviours that result in psychological or physical harm to self, others or objects in the environment. Intent to cause harm
  • Hostile aggression - aggression that is directed at the self or others with the intention of harming them
  • instrumental aggression - aggression that serves a purpose and is delibrate
  • relational aggression - a type of aggression that involves a person intentionally hurting or embarrassing another person
  • violent aggression - aggression that is directed at a person or persons and is intended to cause harm
  • physical aggression - physical harm to another person, or threat of harm
  • non - physical aggression - verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse
  • indirect observation - observing behaviour without being part of it, e.g. watching a child playing with a toy
  • direct observation - being exposed to aggressive objects or other behaviour can cue aggression in a person
  • self fulfilling prophecy - when a person's behaviour is influenced by their expectations of how others will react to them
  • self-fulfilling prophecy - ambiguous behaviour by other person perceived as threat - react with aggression to protect self - hostile schema cued by situation
